Spotlight Golfer

It all began in New Washington, Indiana, an Ohio River flood-plain town. At New Washington, we like to think of ourselves as Hazzard, Kentucky without all that glitter. I was a ten-letter varsity performer at New Washington High School and still have a letter jac ket seven sizes too small. I graduated tenth in my class’ top ten students – out of eleven. We had a rash of farm accidents and unexpected pregnancies (technically a farm accident in Indiana) limiting the class numbers.

I moved on to Indiana University majoring in Business and Economics. Following my six or eight years at Indiana University, I went to Duke.......the electric utility- let's get serious here-not the college. After a seven-year “illuminating” career, I got my true calling.

I had worked for my passion since high school. I went for my life’s goal- free beer. Joining the Miller Brewing Company, now Molson-Miller-Coors. I had found my calling. My career took me to live in Memphis, Denver, five locations in Michigan, and three stops in Milwaukee (home of beer). Most of my work centered around marketing, sales, and merger/acquisitions.  Upon retiring as the Director of Distributor Transactions, the company’s President commented:

“Boyer had the intellect, perseverance, and passion of Lincoln and less tact than the guy who shot him!”

My other career included twelve years as a sports analyst on television. I even had my own sports show creatively named “Boyer on Sports.”

My personal life has included 31 years of marriage (9+12+10=31). Tragically, those last ten years were far too short as I lost my wife, Mary, three years ago from surgical complications. I have three stepsons, two daughters, and a son. Not to overlook thirteen grandkids (eleven under the age of 5!!). A trip to Disney with my group is not a “magical day”!!

In closing, I have several Grand Haven goals:
•    Complete the Women of Grand Haven calendar with Mike Rowlands.
•    Continue my work on the counter-intuitive DOM. (Drunk Old Men) project, getting people to drink more, co-sponsor, Jim Golomb.
•    Create a “Lonnie Ritzer Non-Memorial Golf Tournament” all participants wearing a Red Wings shirt. Any lost balls found to come       off your score.
•    Continue to work with improving Larry Geiser’s putting.
•    Have someone tell me “You remind me of John Douglas!”

Till then, see you at the bar!
