Please congratulate Dennis Durand on his selection as Spotlight Golfer. Dennis is an active MGA member, past association tournament director, an accomplished golfer and winner of our most recent shoot-out.

Dennis Durand grew up in Massapequa, NY. Upon graduation from Plainedge High School in 1964, he entered the New York State Maritime College at Fort Schuyler, New York. He graduated with a degree in engineering and was commissioned as an ensign in the Naval Reserve. Dennis sailed aboard various Exxon-Mobil tanker vessels as an engineering watch officer for five years.

Upon returning to life on land, Dennis continued his education. He received an MBA(Finance) degree from Long Island University and a Masters of Nuclear Engineering degree from NYU-Poly. He was a licensed Professional Engineer in the State of New York and a licensed Senior Reactor Operator (SRO) with the Nuclear Regulatory Committee. During that time frame Dennis worked for the Long Island Lighting Company.

Dennis married his high school sweetheart, Karen. They married in 1969 after they had both completed their respective college educations. They have two sons, Brett and Daniel. Brett is an attorney and lives in Greenwich Village, New York. Daniel, a Radiologist, is married to Christine, an Internist. They live in Baltimore with their two sons, Connor and Evan. Dennis and Karen frequently travel north to visit their sons and grandsons.

Dennis was always interested in sports. He played football in his youth, in college he was a member of the Judo team and as a young adult he started golf, tennis and skiing. He was an enthusiastic and dedicated coach for his sons’ baseball and soccer teams.

Dennis and Karen moved to Palm Coast and Grand Haven in 2002 after visiting several golf communities in the Southeast, and both agree ‘we love it; life’s special here!’ Since living in Grand Haven Dennis has split his leisure sports participation between golf and tennis. His fondest memories on the Grand Haven Golf Course include hitting two holes- in- one (holes #8 and #14). Most recently, winning the Shootout sponsored by the GHMGA was a very positive experience. In addition he is a past Tournament Director for the GHMGA.

Other interests that he has been able to pursue since retiring are reading, working in the garden, maintaining his home, and bike riding on the beautiful bike paths in Palm Coast.

Please join us in recognizing Dennis for his many accomplishments and on his very deserving selection as our Spotlight Golfer.
