Jim Davis
September 2023 Spotlight Golfer
Following a very undistinguished catholic high school career marred by drinking, drugs and other sinful activity, he formed a low level bar band looking for stardom and boundless riches - which quickly came crashing down due to lack of talent - the only benefit being that he met the bass player’s sister - whom he would eventually marry.
While not a fan of societal norms, Jim nevertheless bit the bullet and enrolled in college. Discovering an aptitude for math (and not much else) he became a finance major with minors in economics and quantitative analysis at NYU. This led to a career on Wall Street as a bond trader. Working at several small, “boutique” firms, he slowly developed a reputation for the unconventional - discovering yield away from traditional credit risk.
At some point, he married his wife, Mary Ann, and (with her help) managed to bear and raise three daughters (bearing was more fun than raising). This is the primary reason Jim sucks at golf. As it turns out, spending time with your kids means less time for golf. Fortunately, even with his tainted guidance, they all ended up with successful careers which involve helping people in need.
Palm Coast was an easy decision for Jim and Mary Ann. His parents moved down in 1989 so he had visited many times. With the kid’s gone and Covid mismanagement in full swing in NY, Jim and his friends were forced to travel to Connecticut to play golf. The light bulb finally went on in his head (it takes him a while) and they decided to move down here full time in January of 2021.
These days, Jim is winding up his bond business and looking forward to retirement while working on his golf game. With a new swing thought every few days, Jim oscillates between being a below average golfer and truly sucking. His goal is to become average while still being able to have fun on the course and smoke cigars. He enjoys comedy and rock concerts and looks forward to maybe someday becoming a grandfather.
