Jim began playing golf after retiring from KPMG / Bearing Point in 2000.  His first set of golf clubs including driver, 3 wood, bag and 2 dozen golf balls set him back $200.  Since then Jim has purchased updated clubs, bag and many golf balls.  He has two career hole in ones both at King Ridge Golf Club in Clermont, FL.  He also has an “A” wedge sitting in the water before Grand Haven’s number 8 green.

Jim was born in South Bend, Indiana.  He is the middle son of three boys.  As a youngster he delivered newspapers, cut lawns, shoveled snow and enjoyed playing football and basketball. A little known fact about Jim is that he started playing the violin in second grade and played until high school. He vividly remembers carrying his violin case to John Adams High School and stealthily placing it into his locker.

Jim lived in South Bend until Studebaker Corporation, where his Father worked, closed its doors in 1963. His family moved to St. Clair Shores, Michigan where Jim finished his senior year of high school.  The University of Notre Dame’s Business School was Jim’s next educational pursuit.  He joyously returned home to South Bend Indiana to continue his studies.

While at Notre Dame Jim did a little radio announcing, played his folk guitar in coffee houses, played inter hall football, bookstore basketball tournaments participated in Junior Class and Student Government. He claims that he did in fact study while at Notre Dame.  In his Junior year he dated Patricia (Pat) Liepold who attended Indiana University’s South Bend campus.  One thing led to another and Jim proposed to Pat before his Senior year.  Jim graduated, received his commission as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Air Force, married Pat and they began Air Force life at Lowry Air Force Base in Denver, CO.  Later the Air Force transferred Jim to Washington DC as a Procurement Officer to purchase the A-7D aircraft from LTV Corporation.   Pat and Jim loved Washington DC area and remained after Jim separated from the service in 1972.

Jim began working with KPMG (Peat Marwick Mitchell at the time) as a management consultant with the Aerospace Defense practice segment in Washington DC. He was elected to the partnership in 1980, later became a National Managing Partner and member of the Operating Committee.  When KPMG spun off their management consulting practice and took it public, Jim decided it was time to retire and enjoy life.  They moved from Alexandria, Virginia to Clermont, Florida in 2003 and then Palm Coast in 2012. Jim and Pat’s older daughter, Meredith, lives in Palm Coast with her husband, Larry. Their younger daughter, Lisa, lives in Hurricane, West Virginia with two granddaughters Miley and Jayden.

You will notice that Jim is gone from Palm Coast quite a bit.  Pat loves to travel and see the world and Jim loves to travel with Pat especially when it entails seeing the grandkids.

Jim is an asset to our community and a pretty good golfer. He is now serving as Treasurer on the MGA board. Congratulate Jim when you see him on the course.
