Otto’s golfing experiences at Grand Haven began in May 1998 the year the Club officially opened and he was the seventh member to join. In October of that same year, golf legend Jack Nicklaus came to town for the Grand – Opening of his newly designed course. Otto and several members followed
Jack as he played an exhibition round from the back tees at Grand Haven, casually chatting with some
members and invited guests. As the membership grew, in 1999 Otto and four other members formulated the By – Laws for the Grand Haven Mens Golf Association. He held several positions in the GHMGA starting as Treasurer followed by Board of Governers liaison. Otto also served on the Handicap/Tournament/Reciprocal Committee as well as the Greens and Grounds Committee. More recently he served as President and currently (2012-2013) is Club Rep for the Interclub Golf Championship Series. The first Men’s Member- Member ( Four Ball ) Tournament held in 2000 was won by Otto and his partner and in June 2001 received congratulations for his hole –in-one on # 17 at Grand Haven.
Otto is from Philadelphia Pa. where he attended North Penn High School lettering in three sports (Baseball, Basketball and Soccer ), earning Hall Of Fame status. Otto finished with high honors and continued his education at Penn State University were he played freshman Basketball. He was
instrumental in starting Youth Association Little League Baseball and Basketball in his local home community of Lansdale, PA.
After college Otto made his career (35 years) with the growing new Company of ( H&K Group ), working through the years as Project Estimator and Manager and Account Adminstrator. The Company is now one of the Mid-Atlantic Region’s largest construction materials and full-service site contracting companies. Based in Pennsylvania the company has over 80 vertically integrated divisions in four states, encompassing Site Contracting, Excavating Services, Crushed Stone, Sand Gravel, Paving and Demolition. Recently H&K completed the Pocono Raceway Project receiving rave reviews from NASCAR.
Otto and his wife Cathy are parents to three sons, Chris, Barry and Jeff ( all volunteer firefighters ) and grandparents to three grandchildren, Evan, Erin and baby Henry Otto. Cathy and Otto vacationed many years ( leaving the cold PA winters ) and staying at Crescent Beach
north of Palm Coast near St. Augustine. When retirement time came in 1997, they explored the area they knew, traveling south on A1A to visit the new golf community under construction on the IWC . . . Grand Haven . After a community tour with their realtor and a Jeep ride over mounds of dirt which was to become the awesome 8th hole, the Bohmuellers were sold !
