Rick Myers was born in Vandalia, Ohio. He was the oldest of three children. He attended Butler High   School and enjoyed playing basketball on the varsity level. He then graduated from high school and   attended Bowling Green State University.

Rick’s interest was always in music. He enjoyed playing the drums, so he joined a band called “The       Windsor Brothers.” He took his talents on the road. This profession lasted a couple of years until a     friend  of his talked him into becoming a police officer. Rick started his law enforcement career working   for the Lima Police Department in Ohio. After the great snowstorm of 1978 Rick decided that was   enough snow, so he moved to West Palm Beach, Florida.

Rick served thirty-five years in law enforcement. In 2005, Rick retired from the Palm Beach County   Sheriff’s Office. During his law enforcement career Rick’s passion was in training, not only for the Palm   Beach County Sheriff’s office, but for the Palm Beach State College, Basic Recruit Police Academy.   Rick made his mark at the Sheriff’s Office and is known as a “legend” in the training arena.

During a firearms course in the late 1980’s, Rick’s Class was suddenly halted by a Field Specialist from   the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE). The reason, she could not find the proper   certification for Rick. She stopped his training as a pleading conversation ensued. Long story short, it   took a trip to the college to look for the paperwork and low and behold, the paperwork was located on   the Director’s desk. Apparently, it had not been sent to the State for certification. Rick was able to   continue his class that afternoon.

Over the next twenty years, Rick occasionally crossed paths with the FDLE Field Specialist, even   teaching classes together on occasion. In 2007, Rick married FDLE Field Specialist Kathy Myers who   continues to work for the Department, and yes, she is the same specialist who stopped his class all   those years ago.

They relocated to Palm Coast after Rick researched that Flagler County has never had a hurricane.       After moving to Grand Haven, Rick continued to teach firearms for the Law Enforcement Basic Recruit Academy, at the Daytona State College. In 2015, Rick retired.

Rick has three children from a previous marriage: Lisa, Brooke, and Wendy, and five grandchildren. They all live in Vandalia, Ohio.

Rick joined the Grand Haven Golf Club in 2017. In 2017, Rick also joined the MGA and currently is a member of the MGA Board as Membership Chairperson. Rick enjoys the variety of game formats the league offers. The MGA has allowed Rick to form wonderful friendships throughout the community.
